波穏やかな錦江湾に横たわり、七色に山肌を変える優美な表情。
その静かなたたずまいの奥底には、地球の鼓動が息づいています。


海抜３７３ｍ、桜島岳の4合目に位置し、桜の花びらをデザインした屋根が印象的な展望所です。ここから仰ぎ見る南岳の山容や噴煙を上げる様はまさに圧巻。眼下には鏡のように穏やかな錦江湾と鹿児島市街地、南には開聞岳まで一望できる県内一の景勝地です。 This impressive observation point is located 373m above sea level. The roof of the building is designed to look like a cherry blossom petal. From here the view of Minami-dake and the smoke rising from the crater is spectacular. It is the most scenic spot on the island and from here one can see the still waters of Kinko Bay and central Kagoshima City.One also has a clear view of the Kirishima mountain range to the north and Mount Kaimon to the south

　大正3年の大噴火では、噴煙が約8,000mも上昇し、約1ヶ月にわたり30億トンもの溶岩が流出しました。このときの溶岩流によって、桜島は大隅半島と陸続きとなり、沖合い500mにあった烏島が呑みこまれ、完全に埋没しました。現在は桜島フェリー発着所から約2kmの大正溶岩原内に、桜島山と錦江湾を一望できる展望所として整備され、記念の碑が建てられています。昔は島であったことを思うと、自然の驚異をまざまざと感じます。

In the third year(1914) of the Taisho era, Sakurajima erupted violently. For a period of about one month, three million tons of lava gushed out of the volcano. The lava flow buried and consumed Karasujima, an island that was located 500m off the shore of Sakurajima. This eruption joined Sakurajima to the mainland.
Located amidst the lava fields, 2km from Sakurajima ferry terminal, Karasujima Observation Point was constructed in memory of the 1914 eruption. From this point, one can get a clear view of the volcano and Kinko Bay.

走路のように溶岩の大海原を突き進んででいく、まるで異国を感じさせるような溶岩ハイウェイです。溶岩原を縫って走ると、車窓には大小様々な形の溶岩が飛び込んできます。静と動のコントラストが、まるで絵画的なモダニズムを感じさせます。

The lava road is like a runway through a sea of lava. Going through this "lava highway" is as if one is stepping into another world. If the window of the car is left open when driving through this road, little pieces of lava might come into the car . The contrast of the tranquil and violent scenery gives the viewer a feel of picturesque modernism.

クロマツ親水公園

海沿いにあり、魚釣りもできる公園です。名前の通りクロマツの並木と青々とした芝生が広がり、森林浴が楽しめます。また、隣接して海水浴場もあります。

Located beside the ocean, one canenjoy fishing in this park. As the namesuggests,the park is lined with black pine trees and a grassy open area.There is a beach and swimming area located next to the park.

ボードウォーク

溶岩の合間を渡って走る板張りの遊歩道。なぎさ遊歩道から続いており、夜は鹿児島市内の夜景が目前に美しく広がります。

This raised walkway is set amidstthe lava fields and can also be used for cy-cling.Itleads to the Nagisa Promenade and in the evening one can take in thebeautiful skyline of Kagoshima Citv.

溶岩・なぎさ遊歩道

桜島フェリーの発着所から西へ広がる大正溶岩地帯、その海岸の一角から鳥島展望前までの約3kmが遊歩道となっています。ジョギングやサイクリングには格好のロードで、岩場では海苔やワカメ、貝捕りなどを楽しむことができます。また、メジナやカサゴをはじめ一年中魚種が豊富。絶好のポイントばかりで最高の釣り場にもなっています。周辺には、全子塊状をはじめ、有名俳人たちの句碑が立ち並んでいます。

West of Sakurajima ferry terminal is the lava zone from the Taisho eruption (1914). Amongst these lava fields is a 3km Walk-way that stretches from the corner of the coast to Karasujima Observation Point. The walkway can also be used for jogging and cycling. Here, one can collect seaweed and dig for shellfish.It is also one of the best places to go fishing,in the vicinity of the walkway,there are monuments inscribed with the poems of famous haiku poets, such as Kaneko Tota and Togo Sau.

桜島ビジターセンター

桜島をより深く理解してもらうために、歴史や自然について分かりやすく展示、解説し、様々な，情報を紹介した施設です。館内は9つのパートに分かれており、桜島の噴火と成長の歴史、植物の遷移、地域の観光情報や防災活動などを紹介しています。ハイビジョンシアターやジオラマ、パソコンなどによって様々な桜島を体感することができます。

To help further the understanding of Sakurajima,the visitor center offers a variety of exhibits and explanation regarding the history and nature of die island. The visitor center is divided into nine sections and has information on things such as the history of Sakurajima, local sights, eruptions and growth, plant development, and emergency drills. The center is also equipped with a high vision theater, dioramas, and computers in order for the visitors to get a full understanding of Sakurajima.

自伝的作品「放浪記」で名を成し、打情と哀愁をたたえた作品で知られる明治時代の小説家、林芙美子の母キクが古里温泉郷の出身であることにちなんで建てられました。碑には、「花のいのちはめじかくて苦しきことのみ多かりき」という詩句が刻まれており、美美子の波乱に満ちた生涯を象徴するかのようです。付近にはしっとりと落ち着いた雰囲気が漂っています。

Hayashi, a novelist during the Meiji era, became well-known throughout Japan for her sorrowful autobiographicalpiece, "Horoki". This monument was erected near Furusato Hot Springs, which was the birthplace of Hayashi's mother, Kiku. Engraved on the monument is one of Hayashi's po-ems, "Life as a flower is short and the suffering is great", which symbolises her own turbulent life.

約5万㎡の面積をもつ緑豊かな公園。中央は芝生広場となっており、周辺には小鳥の森・桜の森・アジサイの小道など四季の花木が美しく咲き競っています。また桜島の原始的イメージに合わせて、プロントザウルスをはじめ7種類の実物大の恐竜模型を配置。高さ12.5m・長さ50mのスーパージャンボすべり台とあわせて子供たちの人気の的です。

This Dinosaur Park is about 50,000m' of beautiful greenery. One can enjoy the different seasonal flowers and trees in the park, such as the cherry blos-soms in spring. To enhance Sakuraji-ma's primitive image,there are seven life-size dinosaur models and a 12.5m tall 50m long giant slide which is very popular with the kids.

桜島の風土や自然は、大昔からたくさんの俳人たちによって語られています。特に俳句は、俳誌「ホトトギス」王宰の高浜虚子が袴腰麓の茶屋で開かれた俳句会で「熔岩に秋風の吹きわたりけり」という句を詠んだこともあり、島内には、あちこちにゆかりのある俳人たちの句碑が建てられ、俳句の島づくりを進めています。

In the past, Sakurajima's natural beauty was often putto verse by Haiku poets. At a poetry recital in the Hakamagoshi area, Takahama Kyoshi, who worked for the haiku magazine "Hototogisu".recited a haiku called, " The autumn wind blows across the lava rocks". Around the island, one can find monuments inscribed with die words of those poets who had a di-rect affiliation to Sakurajima.
