対岸には、史と景の街、鹿児島市。海に足を伸はせば美しい自然に恵まれた島々もあり、バラエティ一に富んだ観光が楽しめます。

薩摩半島の東側、錦江湾に面する人口55万人の県都です。島津77万石の城下町として栄え、幕末，維新には西郷隆盛、大久保利通らの多くの偉人を輩出しました。史跡や銅像が数多く残っており、歴史を変革したエネルギーと質実剛健な気風は今も受け継がれています。また、東洋のナポリとも呼ばれ、南国の明るい日差しが降り注ぎ、路面電車が走る市街地には花と緑があふれ、その街並の美しさと魅力には独特のものがあります。市内には、桜島，錦江湾・鹿児島市を眼下に一望できる城山展望台をはじめ、見所が多く、仙巌園、鶴丸城跡、偉人誕生地などは観光にⅠ日を要するほど充実しています。

Lying on the eastern side of the Satsuma peninsula,facing Kinko Bay, with a population of 550,000 is the prefectural capital, Kagoshima City.In the last days of the Edo period, and at the beginning of the Meiji Restoration, many great men were born in Kagoshima, such as Saigo Takamori and Okubo Toshimichi. These men, honest, solid, energetic types, had characteristic traits very much like the people of Kagoshima today. Many historical sites and bronze statues remain from this period, which makes the city a great place for sightseeing. Nicknamed the "Naples of the Orient" it is filled with flowers, greenery and sunshine. From Shiroyama Observation Point, one has a splendid view of Sakurajima, Kinko Bay and Kagoshima City. A tram line that runs through the city makes for convenienttransportation to local sights, such as Sengan Gardens, Tsurumaru castle ruins and the birthplaces of famous people in Japanese history.

屋久島 Yakushima

世界自然遺産に指定されている屋久島は、樹齢7200年といわれる結文杉や豪放な浜布「千尋滝」など、人間の力を超越した自然の生命力にあふれる島です。

Yakisuma, appointed a World Heritage Sight, is home to 7200 year old Japanese cedar tree dating back to the Jomon period and the Senpirotaki falls. The island is a clear example of how nature is a far greater force than mankind.

薩摩富士と異名をとる開聞岳や九州最大のカルデラ湖である池田湖、天然砂蒸し温泉など全国的にも有名な観光地です。

Ibusuk is famous country-wide for Mt.Kaimon (often referred to as "Satsuma Fuji" and Kyushu's largest caldera lake - Lake Ikeda. There are many scenic spots and an abundance of hot springs. It is also home to the only natural sand bath in die world.

佐多岬 Satamsaki(CapeSata)

本土最南端へのドライブは、佐多岬コードパークから。道両側に亜熱帯の花々が咲き乱れ南国情緒満点。展望台では360度のパノラマが楽しめます。

From Cape Sata Road Park one can drive to the most southern point of the mainland. Lining both sides of this road are subtropical Bowers in bloom, and from the observation point one has a panoramic view of he cobalt blue sea.

鉄砲伝来の地として名高く、現在は日本を代表する宇宙ロケット基地があります。歴史と未来をつなぐスペースアイランドといえます。

Surrounded by deep blue sea, Tanegashima is famous for being the first place in Japan to import firearms am from abroad. It is now one of Japan's representative rocket bases and is aptly nicknamed "Space Island". Also home to a cave.

霧島 Kirishima

天孫降臨の地として名高い霧島屋久国立公園は日本で最初に指定された国立公園の一つで、火山特有の景観や動植物が見られ、高原の魅力を満喫できる遊歩道が整備されています。温泉も数多く点在し、それぞれに趣向が凝らされています。

Known in Japanese mythology to be the place where the gods descended to earth・Kirishma Yaku National Park was one of the first National Parks to be established in Japan. Looking at the summits of a string of volcanoes and the surrounding wildlife, one can enjoy walking around this place of highland charm. There are several different stayles of hot spring to be enjoyed kirishima.
